Armenia Hosts Experts on Quality Financial Reporting

June 15, 2016

YEREVAN, June 15, 2016 – More than 40 experts and practitioners from government agencies and universities from Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and Armenia will participate in a regional workshop focusing on accounting education reform on June 15-16 in Yerevan. Participants from Azerbaijan will join the event through video-conferencing. The event is being hosted by the World Bank Center for Financial Reporting Reform (CFRR) as part of its program known as “Strengthening Auditing and Reporting in the Countries of the Eastern Partnership” (STAREP).

High-quality financial reporting contributes to private sector growth and reducing volatility by strengthening countries’ financial architecture. It helps reduce the risk of financial market crises and associated negative economic impact, contributes to foreign direct and portfolio investment, and also encourages domestic savings.

Strengthening accounting and audit education is one of the pillars of the capacity building activities undertaken by the World Bank CFRR to improve application of international standards in various countries across the Europe and Central Asia region.

This is the sixth workshop organized by the STAREP Education Community. Previous workshops focused on the content of undergraduate accounting degree programs. The current sessions will allow participants to share outcomes of the completed diagnostics and reforms undertaken to date. The event will also help set the course for future workshops which will address professional-level accounting and audit education programs.

Strengthening Auditing and Reporting in Countries of the Eastern Partnership (STAREP) is implemented in partnership with: the Austrian Finance Ministry; the Austrian Development Agency; the European Union; Swiss State Secretariat of Economic Affairs; and the Luxembourg Finance Ministry.
