Reaction to the Luxor Attack from World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim

June 10, 2015

LUXOR, Egypt, June 10, 2015—The World Bank Group today issued the following statement from World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim on the attack on the Karnak Temple in Luxor Wednesday. Kim traveled to Luxor on Wednesday on a previously scheduled visit to learn about World Bank Group projects helping the poor:

'We abhor violence of all types, which runs completely counter to our work to end extreme poverty in the world. In the Middle East, in Africa, in every corner of the world, we must confront extremism by relentlessly creating hope -- investing, for instance, in quality education, women's empowerment projects, and jobs for young people. Hope for a brighter future is one of the best antidotes to extremism.''
