World Bank East Asia Pacific Regional Vice President to Visit Mongolia

ULAANBAATAR, December 10, 2014—Axel van Trotsenburg, World Bank Regional Vice President for East Asia and Pacific, will visit Mongolia on December 10th. This is his second visit to Mongolia, following an earlier visit in September 2013.

During this visit he will meet with Prime Minister Saikhanbileg Ch., Speaker of the Parliament Z. Enkhbold and government officials to discuss how the World Bank Group can continue to support the development of Mongolia and help improve the lives of its citizens, in particular the most vulnerable.

“Mongolia has made impressive gains in reducing poverty since 2010.  The challenge for the country now is to build a stronger and more stable foundation for the future, ensuring that growth is inclusive so more people benefit, especially the poor,” said Mr. van Trotsenburg. “The World Bank Group is ready to expand its support for Mongolia to help the country overcome its development challenges.”

Mr. van Trotsenburg is a distinguished economist with extensive development experience. Mr. van Trotsenburg leads the World Bank’s strategy in the region which supports countries by addressing four shared challenges: natural disasters; poverty and equality; infrastructure and urbanization; and making governments work for people.
