World Bank Mongolia welcomes new Country Director

Ulaanbaatar, February 25, 2010 – The World Bank Mongolia Office is pleased to announce the appointment of its new Country Director, Klaus Rohland. 

Mr Rohland will begin his position in early 2010 and will be the Country Director of Mongolia, China and the Republic of Korea. He will be based in Beijing.

Mr Rohland brings a wealth of experience to this role. It is his fourth Country Director position with the Bank. His most recent Country Director position was in Russia, previous to this he held the position of Country Director in Vietnam.

A German national, Mr Rohland has been with the Bank since 1981. He has worked in a range of countries and positions. He has been involved in development work in South America, Eastern Europe and Asia and managed the World Bank Program in China in the mid-1990s.

Between 1985 and 1995, Mr. Rohland worked with the German Government on international development assistance policies and their implementation. While working in Germany, he advised the German Government on development cooperation policy in various capacities in the Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Office of the Federal Chancellor.

Prior to joining the Bank, Mr Rohland held a number of important positions in the German government, including Division Chief of North/South Policy in the Chancellor's Office.

Mr Rohland graduated from Marburg University in Germany and holds a degree in law and public administration.
