    Mike Hughes

    Advisor, Ministry of Education, Rwanda

    Mike Hughes is a Chartered Engineer with over 30 years of experience in the Power Industry, Telecommunications, and more recently in Science, Technology and Innovation Policy and Strategy. He was appointed as Science, Technology and Innovation Advisor to the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Research from 2004-2006, Ministry in the President's Office in Charge of Science, Technology and Information Communication Technologies from 2006-2009, and Ministry of Education since August 2009. His key role is to develop, and support the implementation of, National Policy and Strategy for the development of Science, Technology and Innovation for social development and economic growth.

    Moses Osiru

    PASET RSIF Regional Coordination Unit, Manager, International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe)

    A scientific leader, Dr. Osiru holds a PhD in Agriculture (Plant Pathology), a Master’s degree in Plant Breeding/Pathology and has published over 50 scientific publications. Moses was previously Deputy Executive Secretary at the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) in Kampala, Uganda and Regional Plant Pathologist at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics based in Bamako, Mali and Lilongwe, Malawi. As a consultant, Dr Osiru has also conducted various studies and led development of ECOWAS’s Strategy and Action Plan for the Control of aflatoxins in West and Central Africa to mitigate food safety challenges. He sits on various Boards and Steering Committee related to agriculture and higher education globally.

    Jeanne Pauline Mungayinka

    RSIF Scholar, African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Nigeria

    She is a PASET RSIF scholar at African University of Science and Technology in Nigeria. Her current research focuses on development of methods to optimize gold recovery and minimize waste and environmental hazards. Her study seeks to characterize gold ores in Rwanda and Nigeria. The research will recommend the most suitable gold recovery method to help the two countries reduce wastage during processing, and thus reap optimum benefits from this valuable resource. She has Bachelor of Applied Chemistry from Kigali Institute of Science and Technology in Rwanda and MSc in Geology from Annamalai University in India.

    Frejus Sodedji

    RSIF Scholar, University Félix Houphouët-Boigny (U-FHB), Côte d’Ivoire

    He is a PASET RSIF PhD scholar at African Center of Excellence in Climate Change, Biodiversity & Sustainable Agriculture (CEA-CCBAD) at University Felix Houphouët Boigny (UFHB) in Ivory Coast. His research focuses on genetics controlling legume pod borer (Maruca vitrata Fabricius) resistance in cowpea. This research will provide a road map to develop demand-led cowpea varieties with resistance to insect pests, for the benefit of African communities that heavily depend on the legume for their protein intake. He obtained MSc in Plant Breeding and Seed Systems from Makerere University, Uganda, BSc in Agronomic Sciences, from the University of Abomey-Calavi, Benin.

    Saori Imaizumi

    Education Specialist, Education Global Practice, World Bank

    Saori works with East and Southern Africa Region Education Global Practice, focusing on regional higher education and innovation projects, such as Partnership for skills in Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology (PASET) and Africa Centres of Excellence (ACE). As an EdTech Fellow, she also involves in Digital Skills Assessment in Kenya and Rwanda, advise, research and involves in the projects related to the use of technologies in Education, Workforce Development, and Employment issue. Previously, she worked with an Education Team in South Asia Region on skills development, higher education, and teacher education projects in India and Pakistan. Prior to joining the Bank, she has interned at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and worked at Accenture in Japan as an IT/management consultant. She holds a M.A. in Development Economics and International Business from the Fletcher School at Tufts University and B.A. in Government and International Relations from Wesleyan University.
