Sint Maarten was devastated by hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. The island is building back better with the help of the Sint Maarten Recovery, Reconstruction and Resilience Trust Fund, which is financed by The Netherlands, managed by the World Bank, and implemented by Sint Maarten.

The hurricane, which claimed lives and deteriorated the socio-economic environment, also impacted its primary economic sector: tourism. The country is in the process of rebuilding the infrastructures damaged by the natural disaster.

Emergency Income Support and Training Project

In Sint Maarten, Hurricane Irma left thousands of people unemployed. This project will enable approximately 1,800 of them to receive skills-training, and have better work opportunities.
