Carlos Felipe Jaramillo is the World Bank Vice President for the East Asia and Pacific (EAP) Region, overseeing partnerships with 23 countries and managing an active portfolio exceeding US$32 billion.
Jaramillo is based in Singapore, which serves as the new regional hub for the EAP region, in line with the World Bank’s decentralization to be closer to clients and enhance service delivery. Under his leadership, the Bank’s EAP operations focus on promoting sustainable energy transition, strengthening human capital through health and education programs, and enhancing resilience and digitalization to create stronger impact—ensuring more jobs and thriving communities for all.
Jaramillo brings over two decades of proven leadership across multiple regions and global practices.
Most recently serving as Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean since 2020, Jaramillo led recovery programs during the Bank’s largest-ever regional crisis response across 31 countries. Earlier, as Division Director for Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia and Uganda based in Nairobi, he managed over 80 projects worth more than US$12 billion to help countries accelerate sustainable growth.
Prior to his role in Africa, Jaramillo was the senior director of the World Bank Group’s Macroeconomics, Trade and Investment Global Practice (MTI), where he led a global team of more than 450 economists. Since joining the World Bank in 2002, he has also served two terms as country director in the Latin America and Caribbean Region.
Before joining the Bank, Jaramillo was a public servant in the Government of Colombia, holding offices in the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank and the Ministry of Trade. Jaramillo holds an M.A. and a Ph. D. in development economics from Stanford University. He has taught at the Department of Economics of the Universidad de Los Andes in Bogota and at the University of Maryland, College Park.
