The Ethics and Internal Justice Services Vice Presidency (EIJ) fosters a values-based workplace culture and helps staff uphold the World Bank Group’s (WBG) ethical standards. EIJ provides an integrated, empathetic, and efficient approach to resolving workplace conflict, allowing staff to focus with urgency on WBG’s mission. With a dual function of prevention and resolution, EIJ follows four guiding principles:
- Clarity: Staff have clarity on where to go to have their issues resolved.
- Speed: Staff have their issues resolved quickly.
- Fairness: Staff have confidence that the WBG’s internal justice system is fair and just.
- No Retaliation: Staff do not fear retaliation or reprisal as a result of using EIJ’s services.
EIJ’s wide-ranging services are available to all staff and all appointment types. Services include: Respectful Workplace Advisors; Ethics Advisory, Training and Values; Anti-Harassment and Anti-Discrimination; Mediation; Peer Review Services; Performance Management Review; Investigations; and Ombuds. Staff can reach out directly to any of them. Additionally, staff can access any of the EIJ services through a central intake function, known as the EIJ Navigator, where expert advisors will guide them to the EIJ service that is best suited to address their specific workplace conflict, ethics question, or concern.
Alleged misconduct or ethics questions and concerns may be reported to EIJ by email or by calling an External Third-Party Ethics Helpline at 1-800-261-7497 that is available 24 hours daily, seven days a week. Callers may remain anonymous if they wish, and no call-tracing or recording devices are ever used. The Third-Party Ethics Helpline is staffed by trained specialists who are not employed by WBG and callers may ask to speak in a language in which they feel most comfortable. EIJ will receive a written report for follow-up and callers may indicate a preferred method of contact.
All communications with EIJ are confidential and will be treated with the utmost discretion.
