— After rising more than 15 percent in the first four months of 2019, energy commodities retreated in May (down 2.8 percent). In fact, almost all major commodity groups fell, led by base metals (down 5.4 percent). Non-energy commodities fell 1.8 percent. Only grains registered gains in May, rising 2.5 percent.
