BRIEF

Clarification of the World Bank Central Asia Regional Office Regarding Construction Works along the Koktash-Aksay-Tandyk Road Section

February 20, 2014

The World Bank Group Offices in the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan would like to clarify some misleading statements in recent media articles about construction works along the Koktash-Aksay-Tandyk road section.

The World Bank Group in the past, as well as currently, is neither financing nor has been asked to finance rehabilitation and/or construction works along the Koktash-Aksay-Tandyk road section.

Any infrastructure project, including roads, financed by the World Bank Group, has to go through a detailed consultation process with the respective governments, national and local, as well as concerned citizens at the community level, on issues relating to the social, environmental and economic aspects of a proposed project.

The World Bank Group is one of the longstanding development partners of the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan, providing support in reducing poverty and promoting socio-economic growth and development in both countries. We ensure that the development process is sustainable and the people see a difference in their lives and livelihood.

We remain committed to the principles of openness and dialogue.
