Operational collaboration examples:
Save the Children (NGO)
The World Bank and Save the Children signed a Strategic Partnership Framework in December 2018. At the core of this partnership is joined-up operational programming and advocacy focused on the HD agenda globally. Save currently have an estimated $40m in World Bank-funded contracts (by their own calculation), covering work in Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Malawi, Myanmar, Mali, Cambodia and Mozambique.
International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)
The Bank signed its first major operational partnership agreement with a CSO in 2017. The agreement between the ICRC and the World Bank financed $20 million of ICRC's activities in Somalia and addresses economic security (food and livelihoods, including cash transfers), health, and water and sanitation, in response to the drought. The interventions are financed through the World Bank’s Crisis Response Window.
South Sudan: This $32 million partnership over two years (2019-2020) aims to scale up primary and secondary healthcare response in that country. Discussions with other country teams, such as those in Yemen, Mali, DRC, Cameroon, and Colombia, Myanmar, and Iraq, have also taken place.
Cordaid (NGO)
Zimbabwe: Cordaid was the implementing agency of a Bank-funded project worth $50 million for health interventions with an emphasis on maternal-child health (MCH) services.
CAR: In 2016, Cordaid received and implemented a $10.4 million World Bank grant for their health programming.
DRC: The Bank and the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics are supporting Cordaid’s evaluation of the impact of results-based financing on education in the South Kivu region of DRC.
World Vision (NGO):
Indonesia: World Vision received a GPSA grant for a program called Citizen Voice & Action (CVA), a social accountability approach to improve dialogue and relationships between communities and governments. The program is focused on improving MCH status in 3 districts: Regency of Kupang, North Central Timor and Sikka.
IMA World Health (NGO)
South Sudan (2013-2018): The Bank funded the $57 million Rapid Results Health Project to strengthen the capacity of health systems throughout Jonglei and Upper Nile states to provide preventive and curative health services. This area encompassed more than 25% of South Sudan’s population, and was implemented by IMA World Health and 12 international and local partners.
