Projects

As of June 2024, the Government of Japan has contributed US$854.3 million to the JSDF program, funding nearly 800 projects. The JSDF has become the leading source of support for innovation in multi-sector social poverty alleviation programs, responding directly to the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable.

Acting as a model for social development and livelihood improvement, JSDF-supported projects have been scaled up with funding from the World Bank, recipient countries, and other development partners. These projects effectively contribute to the World Bank's mission of ending extreme poverty and boosting prosperity on a livable planet.

The JSDF intervenes in the following areas:

  • Improved Nutrition and Early Childhood Development
  • Inclusive Education
  • Improved Access to Basic Health and Sanitation Services
  • Improved Entrepreneurial Skills and Access to Employment
  • Enhanced Adaptation to Climate and Disaster Risk, including in Agriculture
  • Strengthened Local Governance and Accountability

More than 50 percent of JSDF grants have been implemented by civil society organizations in about 93 low- and lower-middle income member countries.
