How Can We Improve the Lives of Africa's Displaced Populations?
May 31, 2016
Although they have not received much attention from global media, 25% of all forcibly displaced people are in Africa, where some countries have hosted large refugee populations for over 20 years. Forced displacement often starts as a humanitarian emergency, but also has long term-development impacts. To create new opportunities and improve the lives of people affected by displacement, the World Bank is providing assistance to refugees, Internally Displaced Persons, returnees, and their host communities with 3 new projects covering 5 African countries: the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Uganda.
