BEIJING, July 18, 2016 -- World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim will visit China from July 19-24 to expand cooperation in areas such as health sector reform and global economic sustainability.
During his visit, Dr. Kim will launch a joint study on health reform in China, a comprehensive study conducted by the World Bank Group and the World Health Organization, the Ministry of Finance, the National Health and Family Planning Commission, and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of China. He will also visit health facilities in Fujian and Anhui provinces, two forerunners of health reform in China, and meet with provincial health reformers.
In Beijing, Dr. Kim will attend Premier Li Keqiang’s roundtable with the heads of international organizations to discuss global economic issues and China’s economic development. He also plan to meet with senior leaders and government officials. In addition, he will attend the G-20 finance ministers’ meeting in Chengdu.
“I would like to thank China’s leaders for their continued commitment to working with the World Bank Group,” said Dr. Kim. “We welcome China’s eminent role in global development, and like the rest of the world, we have been impressed by China’s progress in areas such as healthcare reform. We feel privileged to have had the opportunity to work together with China to identify ways of deepening reforms and pave a path to low-cost and high-value health care. We thank all our partners and look forward to supporting China’s effort to implement reforms recommended by our joint study.”
Dr. Kim will be accompanied by Yang Shaolin, Managing Director and World Bank Group Chief Administrative Officer, Victoria Kwakwa, World Bank East Asia and Pacific Regional Vice President; Bert Hofman, World Bank Country Director for China, Mongolia and Korea; and Tim Evans, Senior Director for the World Bank’s Health, Nutrition and Population Global Practice.
