TUNIS, January 24, 2013 – Earlier today, Reuters reported that the World Bank had approved a loan for Tunisia for $500 million for 2013. To correct this, the World Bank Country Director for the Maghreb, Simon Gray, issued the following statement:
"The World Bank has discussed possible additional budget support with the Tunisian authorities for 2013 but we are a long way from the approval of any new loan. This will depend on the performance of the government's ongoing program to strengthen the business environment and to promote transparency and good governance."
