MOSCOW, July 31, 2012 - The Federal Migration Service of Russia (FMS of Russia) and World Bank today recommitted to strengthening their cooperation and efforts to foster labor migration in Russia.
In a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed Tuesday, the two institutions, represented by Konstantin Romodanovski, Director of the FMS of Russia, and Michal Rutkowski, World Bank Country Director for Russia, agreed to enhance their cooperation in the area of international labor migration. That includes analytical and research activities, knowledge management, technical assistance related to migration policy, remittance and migration statistics, and coordination of actions on migration management between the Russian Federation and other countries.
“The document we sign today sets a good framework for cooperation [between Russia and the World Bank] in the area of international migration. The MOU is a flexible instrument that defines the key directions for joint work and allows us to involve other partners into the dialogue. Migration is a very important development issue, and I am happy that we will intensify our cooperation through knowledge sharing and analytical work”, noted Michal Rutkowski at the signing ceremony.
The MOU states that specific arrangements for individual activities in each substantive area will be set out in jointly-formulated work plans. Collaboration is intended to be results-focused, with the World Bank’s technical expertise complementing the Russia's migration policy leadership in the region.
The MoU formalizes the partnership between World Bank and FMS of Russia to facilitate a closer and more effective partnership.
