Moscow, June 25, 2012 – Today, the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) and the World Bank signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The document was signed by Vladimir Mau, Rector of the Academy, and Michal Rutkowski, World Bank’s Country Director for Russia.

The Academy and the World Bank initiated a collaborative partnership program in April, 2011, which has proved to be very productive.

Given the successful collaboration in several selected areas so far, in recognition of the Academy’s unique contribution to socioeconomic development of Russia and the CIS countries, we would like to establish a longer term cooperative relationship for greater mutual benefits in the future”, said Michal Rutkowski, the World Bank Country Director for Russia.

The Memorandum of Understanding is intended to achieve the following objectives:

  • assist efforts of the Academy in becoming a nationally and internationally recognized modern institution;
  • enrich knowledge and develop expertise in areas related to development in Russia and other parts of the world;
  • provide mutual support for exchanges in expert opinions;
  • sustain a longer term collaboration relationship between the Academy and the World Bank.

The World Bank would be supporting the Academy’s activities aimed at its internationalization and raising its global profile. The World Bank intends to support the Academy’s partnership building with internationally recognized universities, business and public policy schools. The Academy, in its turn, would provide support through its networks to the World Bank’s projects in the Russian Federation and the CIS countries.

Areas of focus for cooperation include:

  • public sector policy and public administration (e.g. public-private partnership, disaster management, economic policy, governance and anticorruption, public finance management);
  • human development (e.g. education, health, social safety net, pensions, migration);
  • business environment (e.g. competitiveness, innovation infrastructure, industrial/science parks);
