MANILA, MAY 8, 2012 — Pamela Cox, World Bank Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific, met Philippines President Benigno S. Aquino III in Malacañang Palace today. World Bank Country Director for the Philippines, Mr. Motoo Konishi joined the meeting.
“I had an excellent meeting with President Aquino. I reaffirmed the World Bank’s support for his administration’s agenda of greater transparency and accountability and commended his commitment to a government that delivers better services to all Filipinos, especially the poor and most vulnerable,” said Ms. Cox.
“We are particularly pleased to be supporting the government's targeted conditional cash transfer program, which helps millions of poor mothers feed their children and get basic health and education. We know from experience around the world that these programs help improve people's lives,” she added.
