Ulaanbaatar, July 7, 2010 – to raise awareness among policy makers, Government officials, and community leaders about the importance of using groundwater wisely, the World Bank developed a groundwater management brochure.
The A4 double sided brochure, which is in Mongolian and English, has been designed to dispel the myth that groundwater is infinite.
According to the World Bank’s Senior Infrastructure Specialist, James Reichert, the wise management of groundwater in the southern Gobi region is paramount to the well being of southern Mongolia’s residents, and for Mongolia to achieve its long-term mining objectives.
The brochure advocates understanding the resource, knowing the demands, planning for the future, allocating equitably, assuring quantity, protecting quality and monitoring use.
