Ghana: Small Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Project

May 12, 2009

IDA Credit: US$15 million equivalent
TERMS: Maturity = 35 years; Grace = 10 years
Project Description: In Ghana, it is estimated that about 44 percent of the population in rural areas and small towns do not have access to clean water and two-thirds do not have access to adequate sanitation. Although important gains have been made over the years, the overall access to clean water in Ghana remains at only 56 percent (2007-8). The Ghana Small Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Project will finance unanticipated cost overruns for community water supply and sanitation sub-projects. The additional funding will enable the participants to complete the remaining activities to help provide access to clean water and adequate sanitation.
