Seeking Your Views: Better Managing Environmental and Social Risk in Morocco

April 11, 2012

April 2012 - The National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) is a demand-driven, community-based program aimed at alleviating social exclusion in rural and urban communities in Morocco. Since 2005, INDH has financed more than 20,000 sub-projects, targeting more than 4.6 million people, in 264 urban neighborhoods and 403 rural communities.

As part of the preparation of its support to the 2nd Phase of INDH, the World Bank conducted a review of the social and environmental management systems of the program. The review asked the following questions:

  • What are the risks of negative environmental and social impacts potential arising from the activities financed by INDH2?
  • Does INDH have adequate processes and procedures in place to detect and mitigate these impacts?
  • What can be done to improve environmental and social management in INDH?

We would be grateful if you could share your feedback on these questions as well as on the key findings and recommendations contained in the assessment. Your suggestions will be considered to revise and enrich the analysis.
