2019 TOP TWO WINNERS

2019 Tier 2 WINNERS

    • As the World Bank endeavors to become a global knowledge bank, there is a constant need to innovate and generate fresh ideas and solutions around development topics.  Following last year’s successes, the Law, Justice and Development (LJD) Week Law Student Contest for Development Solutions shall continue to foster innovation, produce legal solutions to development challenges, and provide a venue for young law school students to contribute to meaningful discussions around legal and development topics.

      Prevailing theme of the LJD Week 2019 Law Student Contest for Development Solutions is in line with that of the LJD Week, namely, Rights, Technology and Development.  We seek creative, innovative, scalable, and timely ideas from currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate level law school students (pursuing L.L.B., J.D., L.L.M. and other similar academic programs) under the age of 28 from any member state of the World Bank.

      LJD Week 2019 student contestants are requested to answer the following question in no more than 3500 characters:  What technological initiatives or measures should World Bank member states support or put in place to enhance the rule of law and provide improved access to justice for individuals and groups in your country with the intention of reducing poverty and boosting prosperity?

      Submitters of the top two proposals will be funded by the Legal Vice Presidency to travel to Bank Group Headquarters during the LJD Week and present their ideas in a TED-Style Talk format in front of LJD Week participants, including VIPs like ministers of justice, attorney generals, chief justices of supreme and constitutional courts.  Additionally, they will have the chance to publish their pieces in a World Bank Group Blog platform, along with the endorsement of the Senior Vice President and World Bank Group General Counsel.  In addition to the top two winners, five further submitters will also be able to publish their ideas in a pertinent blog platform.

    • Participants must be:

      • Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate level law school students (pursuing L.L.B., J.D., L.L.M. and other similar academic programs);
      • Must hold citizenship from any World Bank member state; and
      • Be aged between 18 and 28.

      For the LJD Week 2019 Law Student Contest for Development Solutions, we accept submissions written in English, French, or Spanish.

      Please submit your entry by Sunday, August 18, 2019 11:59 PM EST through the following link.

      Submissions through email or mail shall not be considered.

      Top seven submitters will be able to publish their ideas on a World Bank Group Blog platform endorsed by the Senior Vice President and World Bank Group General Counsel.  These ideas will be circulated among all LJD Week 2019 participants and promoted through social media channels.

    • Submissions must be original and well-written.
