Paul Kriss, World Bank Lead Urban Specialist, spoke on Africa’s Urban Transformation at a conference on Sustainable Cities in Africa, organized by the PSLO for France, Philippe Gautier of the MEDEF. Paul gave an overview of the context, challenges and opportunities of urbanization in Africa, and the WB’s urban program in the region. French Ambassadors in Tanzania and Uganda explained the socio-political and economic environment of their respective countries and highlighted how they can support French companies on the ground. The conference also featured presentations by representatives from the European Commission’s Smart Cities and Communities Partnership, Vivapolis, Dassault Systemes, and the MEDEF. Gerard Wolf, President of the Sustainable Cities Task-Force and VP of the MEDEF Africa Committee, moderated the conference.
