The CPSS and the World Bank, with support from the South African Reserve Bank, hosted the 4th CPSS-World Bank Retail Payments Forum. The objective of the Forum is to deliberate, on an ongoing basis, the current developments in retail payments and providing a platform for open and detailed discussions amongst central banks, public authorities and private sector representatives.
For this fourth meeting, the Forum focused on the following topics:
• Challenges and risks related to virtual currency schemes.
• The development of new international payment platforms / standards
• Explored the recent innovations in retail payments and the role of non-banks.
• Regulatory changes affecting interchange fees in card networks
In attendance were over 90 participants, from 35 countries, representing 34 central banks (both CPSS and non-CPSS members), 17 private sector institutions, the CPSS Secretariat and the World Bank Group.
