Development Challenge
The Botswana HIV/AIDS epidemic is diverse, with the highest infection rates occurring in the northern areas of the country. Prevention is the weakest element of the national response to HIV/AIDS. In 2010, 22.5% of the population (473,000 people) was in the 15-24 age demographic.
Project Description
The project supports improvements in the National AIDS Coordinating Agency's management and coordination capacity; and funds HIV/AIDS prevention and mitigation activities. These include in-school and teacher training, providing mobile antiretroviral clinics for the largest prisons, educational and rehabilitation efforts for orphans and other vulnerable children and strengthening programs for mobile populations, including truck drivers and women involved in transactional sex.
