Sustainable Ocean Economy is Key to Indonesia’s Prosperity

For Indonesia, oceans are vital for its economy and welfare. With more than 17,500 islands and three-quarters of its territory at sea, oceans are central to Indonesia's prosperity. Yet, Indonesia's marine and coastal ecosystems and their economic value are under threat due to overfishing, degradation of mangroves and coral reefs, and marine debris. A blue economy, or a sustainable ocean economy strategy, can address these challenges. This video was produced in partnership with National Geographic Indonesia and filmed in Indonesia’s beautiful islands of Raja Ampat, West Papua.
