Improving Hydromet Services in West Africa

Across West Africa’s buoyant cities, weather and climate variability are making a distinct impact on people, communities, and industries. People from Dakar, Senegal to Niamey, Niger directly face the impact of hydrological and meteorological—hydromet—hazards, as rising temperatures and sea levels impact their everyday lives and livelihoods. To address these challenges, leaders, academics, civil society, beneficiaries, and stakeholders across West Africa collaborated to improve weather, water, and climate services and build resilience against droughts, floods, and other disaster affecting the region. The inaugural Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Hydromet Forum offers a platform for climate-resilient development and adaptation planning in West Africa, through the improvement of hydro-meteorological services as a tool for development.
