Meet Ntuba: 61-Year-Old Nurse Turned Entrepreneur

Ntuba Masena had just recently retired from her nursing job in Lesotho when she had the idea of starting a fruit and vegetable drying business. At first, she was sun-drying her produce but unreliable weather patterns made it hard to keep the business sustainable. Eventually, Ntuba applied for a grant from the Smallholder Agriculture Development Project (SADP), which is supported by the World Bank. Through the SADP, 55,000 smallholder farmers in Lesotho applied for and won public grants. The grants are part of the Smallholder Agriculture Development Project (SADP) which is helping farmers across four districts in Lesotho increase their competitiveness and have better access to markets.
