In Pakistan, Back to Business after the Insurgency

Islampur in KP, Pakistan, was one of the worst hit areas by insurgency and most its inhabitants were forced to leave during the military operation in 2008-09. All hand looms were shut down and stored raw material was damaged. Upon normalization, more than 400 small businesses of the Islampur cluster applied for support through the Multi Donor Trust Fund for KP FATA and Balochistan. So far, we have helped rehabilitate around 152 handlooms, created 24,000 jobs, and restored 1,200 small and medium enterprises in KP and FATA. Patchamuthu Illango, World Bank Country Director for Pakistan and Jakob Jakobsen, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Denmark met with beneficiaries recently and shared their impressions from the field
