Papua New Guinea: Women come together for safer births

Francisca gave birth to her first son in the jungle with help from other women with no access to health services or medicines. Her story is common for women in Bougainville, an island which is only beginning to recover from a ten-year civil war. In 2012, Francisca formed the Koro Women’s Group to improve the lives of the women in the area. Through a World Bank supported project, the group managed to obtain grants to help build a health post.
