WASHINGTON, D.C., April 11, 2025 — The World Bank Group today announced a US$12 billion support package for Argentina, signaling a strong vote of confidence in the government’s efforts to stabilize and modernize the economy.
The package is designed to support reforms that continue to attract private investment and further boost the measures being implemented by the national government to promote job creation. It includes three key components:
- The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) plans to commit US$5 billion to public sector initiatives that enable private sector growth and support the job creation that is already taking place in the country. Investments will focus on modernizing tax administration, improving education and skills development, promoting quality jobs, and building critical infrastructure. This includes a US$1.5 billion Development Policy Financing Operation to be disbursed immediately.
- The International Finance Corporation (IFC) will support private sector development, aiming to invest and mobilize up to US$5.5 billion—US$2 billion of which could be deployed within the first year. Focus areas include infrastructure, critical minerals, agribusiness, energy generation and transmission, and other high-impact sectors.
- The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) expects to issue around US$1.5 billion in guarantees to expand credit access—especially for small and medium-sized enterprises—and to help attract private investment in infrastructure.
This comprehensive package underscores the World Bank Group’s commitment to supporting Argentina’s reform path and helping the country unlock long-term growth and job opportunities. It will be implemented over the next three years, subject to approval by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors, and forms part of a broader international effort that includes the IMF and the Inter-American Development Bank.
