Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Economy and Finance, France

WASHINGTON, December 2 – Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with French Minister of Economy and Finance Bruno Le Maire.

President Malpass was pleased to update Minister Le Maire on the World Bank Group’s (WBG) support for Ukraine and discussed Ukraine’s urgent needs, including repair of energy and transport infrastructure as well as broader reconstruction efforts. President Malpass and Minister Le Maire also spoke about support for countries hosting refugees and for internally displaced people.

President Malpass thanked Minister Le Maire for France’s leadership in improving access to grains and fertilizers in Africa as countries struggle with growing food insecurity and the need to support next season’s crops.

President Malpass and Minister Le Maire held good talks regarding increased climate financing, especially for developing countries, and the importance of private capital enabling reforms to increase private investment.  

President Malpass also updated Minister Le Maire on the WBG’s upcoming Evolution Roadmap paper and thanked Minister Le Maire for France’s support for the WBG as it works to respond to the most urgent global needs, especially with regards to global public goods.
