Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs of India

WASHINGTON, October 15, 2022 – Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs of the Republic of India.

President Malpass was pleased to affirm to Minister Sitharaman the World Bank Group’s (WBG) support to India’s upcoming G20 Presidency. They discussed G20 Finance Track priorities, including addressing debt vulnerabilities, promoting sustainable finance, infrastructure, and financial inclusion. President Malpass and Minister Sitharaman also discussed the G20 Common Framework and ways to make it more efficient and agile.

President Malpass and Minister Sitharaman shared ideas to expand International Financial Institutions’ (IFI) support to developing countries in a sustainable manner.

President Malpass expressed optimism for enhanced WBG engagement with India, including through knowledge sharing agreements and greater engagement with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
