WASHINGTON, October 13, 2022 — Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Christian Lindner, Federal Minister of Finance of Germany.
President Malpass and Minister Lindner discussed climate and debt challenges facing developing countries amid the difficult global outlook. President Malpass and Minister Lindner exchanged views on the G20 Common Framework and ways to accelerate implementation.
President Malpass complimented Minister Lindner on convening a G7 meeting with Compact with Africa countries and noted that the World Bank has scaled up its support to Africa with nearly 50% of total commitments going to the continent.
President Malpass expressed concern about the growing liquidity and solvency pressures for developing countries as global financial conditions tighten and domestic currencies depreciate.
President Malpass and Minister Lindner also spoke about the G20’s review of MDBs’ Capital Adequacy Framework and the World Bank Group’s efforts to increase resources consistent with financial sustainability.
