Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with Kyung-ho Choo, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Korea

WASHINGTON, October 12, 2022 – Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Kyung-ho Choo, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Korea (ROK).

President Malpass congratulated Deputy Prime Minister Choo on his recent appointment and expressed optimism for expanding productive cooperation between the World Bank Group (WBG) and ROK. President Malpass thanked Deputy Prime Minister Choo for the ROK’s continued strong support for the WBG, noting in particular their recent increased contribution to IDA20.

President Malpass and Deputy Prime Minister Choo discussed efforts to strengthen global efforts on climate mitigation and adaptation.

President Malpass welcomed the ROK’s work to address inflation, strong exports, and robust private sector. President Malpass was also happy to exchange views on both global and regional economic issues with Deputy Prime Minister Choo. President Malpass and Deputy Prime Minister Choo discussed the importance of maintaining sound money, fiscal discipline, and targeted policy support for poor and vulnerable members of society.

President Malpass noted to Deputy Prime Minister Choo the strong partnership between IFC, MIGA, and the Korean private sector to mobilize investments into developing countries.
