Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs of India

WASHINGTON, April 22 – Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs of the Republic of India.

President Malpass and Minister Sitharaman discussed the overlapping crises affecting India, including the COVID-19 pandemic and increasing energy prices. President Malpass was also glad to hear Minister Sitharaman’s thoughts on exporting more agricultural products to provide food supply to other countries to address food insecurity.

President Malpass and Minister Sitharaman discussed the ongoing cooperation between the WBG and India on the financial sector. President Malpass also shared with Minister Sitharaman the World Bank Group’s (WBG) readiness to support India in its upcoming G20 Presidency next year.

President Malpass and Minister Sitharaman also spoke on the importance of the Indian private sector and digitalization to recovery.
