Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with Adam Glapiński, Governor of Narodowy Bank Polski

WARSAW, April 11, 2022 – Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Adam Glapiński, Governor of Narodowy Bank Polski and Poland’s WBG Governor. 

President Malpass commended Poland’s generous and rapid support for Ukrainian refugees. President Malpass also complimented the Central Bank of Poland for supporting the Central Bank of Ukraine with a swap line of US$1 billion and measures to ease financial access for Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

President Malpass and Governor Glapiński spoke on the short-term and longer-term impacts of the war in Ukraine on the Polish economy. President Malpass and Governor Glapiński exchanged views on the challenge of overlapping crises of COVID-19, inflation, and the war in Ukraine, as well as their impacts on developing countries. They also underscored the importance of fostering stable currencies and open market access, and encouraged more trade.

President Malpass was pleased to discuss with Governor Glapiński the ongoing close collaboration between the World Bank Group (WBG) and Poland on development issues of mutual concern. President Malpass thanked Governor Glapiński for Poland’s consistent contributions to IDA, and they discussed the role of IDA in alleviating poverty and boosting shared prosperity in the world’s poorest and most vulnerable countries.

President Malpass shared with Governor Glapiński the plans for the upcoming Spring Meetings of the WBG and IMF in Washington, DC.
