WASHINGTON, March 14, 2022 - Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Piotr Nowak, Polish Minister of Economic Development and Technology.
President Malpass congratulated Minister Nowak on Poland’s enormous efforts to support Ukrainian refugees and thanked the Polish government for its rapid legislative action to address this humanitarian crisis. President Malpass affirmed to Minister Nowak the World Bank Group’s readiness to support Poland through both financing and advisory services. President Malpass and Minister Nowak also discussed the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on the global economy, highlighting vulnerabilities related to food inflation and insecurity and surging energy prices.
President Malpass and Minister Nowak addressed Poland’s energy transition away from coal, and the effects of the war in Ukraine on the energy sector. President Malpass praised Poland’s diversification of energy supply and highlighted World Bank support for the Polish government on its transition efforts. President Malpass also noted the recently approved World Bank project to improve Poland’s air quality and energy efficiency.
