Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with Paulo Guedes, Minister of Economy and Finance, Brazil

WASHINGTON, October 14, 2021 – Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Paulo Guedes, Minister of Economy and Finance, Brazil. 

President Malpass and Minister Guedes discussed Brazil’s economic recovery from COVID-19 pandemic and recent structural reforms in the areas of fiscal policy, service provision, digitalization, and infrastructure. They also discussed innovative ways of mobilizing domestic and foreign private investment to support growth and jobs creation, including by small and medium enterprises (SMEs).  President Malpass reaffirmed to Minister Guedes the World Bank Group’s (WBG) commitment to assist with these vital efforts.

President Malpass offered Minister Guedes WBG assistance with sustainable development and noted ongoing WBG support for Brazil’s climate and sustainable growth goals through financing and knowledge services, including the new Country Climate and Development Report (CCDR).

President Malpass and Minister Guedes also exchanged views on a number of critical initiatives, including vaccine production in developing countries and a need for increased financing for the poorest countries.
