Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with Lütfi Elvan, Minister of Treasury and Finance, Turkey

WASHINGTON, October 14, 2021 – Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Lütfi Elvan, Minister of Treasury and Finance, Turkey. President Malpass and Minister Elvan discussed the World Bank Group’s (WBG) support to Turkey and expressed his appreciation for Turkey’s leadership on refugee issues. 

President Malpass highlighted the importance of macroeconomic stability and effective implementation of economic reforms for a positive investment environment.

President Malpass congratulated Minister Elvan on Turkey’s ratification of the Paris Agreement and affirmed the WBG’s intent to support Turkey as it works to develop a long-term strategy for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. President Malpass noted the importance of mitigation and robust Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

President Malpass offered Minister Elvan the WBG’s support for energy transition plans, including through new diagnostic tools that examine the interplay of development and climate such as World Bank Country Climate and Development Report (CCDR).
