President Malpass congratulated the UNSG on his recent re-election. President Malpass and the UNSG discussed shared development priorities, including continued efforts to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. They also discussed the importance of green, resilient, and inclusive development and the role of IDA to support the world’s poor and vulnerable.
President Malpass highlighted the importance of integrating climate and development. The UNSG welcomed the World Bank’s leadership role to tackle climate change in developing countries, including the Bank’s target for 50% of its climate finance to support adaptation and resilience.
President Malpass and the UNSG also discussed the challenges facing Afghanistan and exchanged views on how the World Bank Group and United Nations can work together to help the people of Afghanistan.
