NEW YORK CITY, September 21, 2021—This afternoon, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with President Laurentino Cortizo Cohen of Panama.
President Malpass thanked President Cortizo for hosting the Bank’s new hub in Panama City, which will allow for strengthened support to World Bank Group clients and partners in the region.
President Malpass and President Cortizo discussed the increased migration flows in the region and the need for assisting countries that are hosting migrants. They also discussed Panama’s priorities for economic recovery with a focus on private sector-led growth.
President Malpass welcomed Panama’s progress on its COVID-19 vaccine deployment and its work on the AML/CFT agenda. The World Bank stands ready to support further progress in both areas.
