Readout from World Bank Group President Malpass's Meeting with Marise Payne, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Women, Australia

WASHINGTON, May 12 – Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Women Marise Payne. President Malpass and Minister Payne discussed COVID-19 response efforts in the Indo-Pacific region, and President Malpass thanked Minister Payne for Australia’s support for the World Bank Group’s ongoing work in East Asia and the Pacific.

President Malpass and Minister Payne also discussed the World Bank Group’s work on debt, climate change, and the need for pandemic response and recovery efforts to address differing impacts on women and girls. In particular, the President and Minister addressed the importance of greater transparency, especially on the issues of COVID-19 vaccines and debt. President Malpass noted the close alignment between IDA and Australian development priorities and the importance of a strong IDA20 replenishment to good development outcomes, especially for small states.
