WASHINGTON, August 2, 2019 – World Bank Group President David Malpass issued the following statement today:
“Today, I spoke with World Bank CEO Kristalina Georgieva after her nomination as a candidate for the position of Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund. Following consultations, I have agreed to Kristalina’s request for a leave of absence for the nomination period. During this time, she will temporarily relinquish her responsibilities as CEO of the World Bank. I congratulate Kristalina on her nomination, which reflects her strong global leadership on economics, finance and development.”
