Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan

TOKYO, September 13 – Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan.

President Malpass thanked Prime Minister Kishida for his strong support for IDA20 as the world confronts overlapping crises.  He also welcomed Japan’s co-financing of World Bank Group (WBG) projects in Ukraine that will sustain critical government administrative and service delivery capacity.

President Malpass was glad to reaffirm to Prime Minister Kishida the WBG’s commitment to continued close cooperation with Japan on issues such as debt and debt transparency and pandemic preparedness and healthcare.

President Malpass expressed the WBG’s full support for Japan in its G7 Presidency in 2023. President Malpass also expressed his sincerest condolences to Prime Minister Kishida on the passing of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
