New World Bank Director for Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador and Peru

LIMA, September 03, 2019— Marianne Fay, an economist specializing in sustainable development, is the new World Bank Director for Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador and Peru. In her new position, she will lead the strategic partnerships and supervise projects and operations in those four countries.

Fay has spent 25 years overseeing World Bank flagship research in over 13 countries of Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. These studies seek to generate knowledge and solutions to promote shared prosperity in the countries, while respecting and protecting the environment.

"The World Bank will continue to further its solid relationship with the countries of the region to promote sustainable, inclusive economic developmentShe said.

The new World Bank director will lead the implementation of a portfolio of 37 investment projects in the Andean countries totaling more than USD 7 billion, as well as a portfolio of 33 research and technical assistance activities valued at USD 1.2 million. She is responsible for operations to improve productivity for sustainable growth, expand access to quality basic services and strengthen natural resource management.

Prior to her appointment, Marianne Fay worked as a chief economist for sustainable development and a chief economist for climate change at the World Bank. She has published and edited several books and articles, including the "World Development Report 2010: Development and Climate Change," and the report "Infrastructure in Latin America and the Caribbean: Recent Developments and Rey Challenges."
