World Bank Chief Executive Officer Kristalina Georgieva is meeting in Bulgaria with leaders from six Western Balkan countries at a joint event with the Bulgarian Prime Minister
Sofia, December 6, 2017 — The World Bank Chief Executive Officer, Kristalina Georgieva, arrived today on her first official visit to Bulgaria, on the eve of Bulgaria’s presidency of the Council of the European Union. This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the opening of the World Bank office in Bulgaria.
The cornerstone of this visit will be the International Conference for Stronger Integration in the Balkans, where confirmed attendees from the Western Balkans will include:
- Edi Rama, Prime Minister of Albania
- Mirko Sarovic, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Hashim Thaçi, President of Kosovo
- Zoran Zaev, Prime Minister of FYR Macedonia
- Filip Vujanović, President of Montenegro
- Ana Brnabić, Prime Minister of Serbia
The Conference will take place on December 7, 2017 in Sofia and will be divided into two sessions, the first on transport and trade connectivity, and the second on building regional IT and technology clusters in the Balkans with a special focus on investing in people and job-creating skills acquisition.
