World Bank Group at COP21 – Press Events on Day 1 – November 30

The World Bank Group sees the Paris COP21 climate talks as a major milestone on the world’s path to low carbon and more resilient growth. The WBG supports a successful outcome in Paris and hopes it will galvanize action to help our client countries as they implement national plans to address climate change post-Paris.

The WBG delegation is led by President Jim Yong Kim. Also attending are: Group Vice President and Special Envoy for Climate Change Rachel Kyte, Vice President for Sustainable Development Laura Tuck, and Vice President for Africa Makhtar Diop.

The following are events where senior WBG representatives will be speaking on Monday, November 30, 2015

Monday November 30 (by order of time during the day)

10:15-11:15

Announcement of the Transformative Carbon Asset Facility, Nordic Pavilion, Blue Zone, Le Bourget.  

The World Bank Group together with partners Germany, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom will announce the Transformative Carbon Asset Facility (TCAF), a new $500 million initiative which will pilot new ways to help developing countries combat climate change.   WBG President Jim Yong Kim and Prime Minister of Norway, H.E. Erna Solberg will give opening statements at 10:15-10:35.

14.00-15.30

Launch of the Africa Climate Business Plan, Africa Pavilion, Le Bourget.  

This flagship event is expected to host six African Heads of States and Governments, WBG President Jim Yong Kim and Vice President Makhtar Diop, and several international development partners for a presentation and discussion of the $16.1 billion Africa Climate Business Plan for priority climate-resilient and low-carbon initiatives in Africa.

16:15-17:30

Launch of the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition, IETA Pavilion, Le Bourget

WBG President Jim Yong Kim and Vice President Rachel Kyte will be joined by Ministers of Environment and OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría, for the launch of the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition, which brings together leaders from government, business and civil society to catalyze action towards the successful implementation of carbon pricing around the world.

17:30-18:00

A Conversation with Presidents of the Multilateral Development Banks on Making Climate Finance Work, OECD Pavilion, Le Bourget

WBG President Jim Yong Kim will be joined by the presidents of the five other major Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) – AfDB, ADB, EBRD, EIB and IDB – for a panel discussion and the release of a statement on boosting financing for climate action and how climate considerations will be integrated into the work of the MDBs.

18:00 – 18:45

Heads of State Media Event on Carbon Pricing, Press Conference Room 1, Blue Zone, Le Bourget

Media are invited to attend an event bringing together an extraordinary group of world leaders on a global stage to call on countries and companies to put a price on carbon pollution. H.E. President François Hollande of France will be joined on the stage by other heads of state as well as WBG President Jim Yong Kim
