World Bank Executive Director Visits Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar,   May 31 2006 - From June 1-6 2006, Dr. Joong-Kyung Choi, Executive Director for Mongolia, will visit Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia for consultations with his country authorities and get acquainted with the country first hand.   This is the Executive Director’s first visit to Mongolia.

Dr. Joong-Kyung Choi, the Executive Director, appointed by the Board of Governors of the World Bank, represents Mongolia at the bank. Mongolia is one of the constituency members of his office in addition to Cambodia, Papua New Guinea and Pacific Islands.

His office encourages the constituency member countries to engage actively with the Bank through increased understanding of the Bank’s policies and activities among constituency members and also encourage the Bank to engage actively with the constituency members.

During his visit, Dr. Choi will meet with H.E. Mr.Bayartsaikhan, Finance Minister, MP and Governor of the Bank Group of Mongolia, the Speaker of the Parliament Ts. Nyamdorj, the Prime Minister Mr. Enkhbold and other high level government officials and donors. He will visit the WB project sites in Khenty and Tuv aimags to meet with project officers and beneficiaries.

Dr. Choi will also have an opportunity to meet with some local representatives and children during his visit to the Public Information Center and “the street children” project site. Since July 2004, the Public Information Center has been operating under the partnership of the World Bank with Open Society Forum, ADB and UNDP.

The visit will give him an insight into furthering the development and progress of the Bank activities in Mongolia.
