IPIECA

IPIECA is the global oil and gas industry association for environment and social issues. Its membership comprises the world’s leading oil and gas companies, service companies, and regional and national industry associations.

In a letter to the World Bank, IPIECA’s Executive Director Brian Sullivan expressed the organization’s support for the aims of the initiative. The organization plans to work on updating its existing industry guidance on flare management in line with the Initiative’s principles and in collaboration with the World Bank-managed Global Gas Flaring Reduction Partnership (GGFR) and the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP).

IPIECA works with its members to provide guidance on good practices and to help improve the industry’s operational performance. This includes work on energy efficiency improvements, reducing methane emissions, and corporate reporting on greenhouse gas emissions. IPIECA also educates and informs its members on topics, such as low emissions pathways, the UN Sustainable Development goals, and the role of carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS).

IPIECA will use its convening power to explain the benefits of supporting the principles of the “Zero Routine Flaring by 2030” Initiative, which will help accelerate industry commitments to end the 160-year-old practice of routinely flaring associated gas at oil production sites.
